SCP Founding President Prof. Konrad Bergmeister has received the prestigious CTE Award Grandi Personalità dell'Ingegneria (Great Personalities of Engineering), presented by the Collegio dei Tecnici della Industrializzazione Edilizia (CTE) during the Italian Concrete Conference 2026 held in Bergamo.

The award recognizes his lifelong outstanding contributions to civil engineering, structural concrete research, tunnelling technology and large-scale infrastructure development across Europe.

Hosted under the theme Costruzioni in calcestruzzo: opportunità e nuove sfide (Concrete structures: opportunities and new challenges), the Italian Concrete Conference gathered leading academics, engineers and industry practitioners. The CTE Award "Grandi Personalità dell'Ingegneria" is a distinguished Italian engineering honor, conferred upon eminent figures with remarkable international influence within the built environment sector.

Professor Konrad Bergmeister is globally renowned as an expert in structural engineering, concrete technology and tunnel engineering. He is widely known for his pivotal role as former CEO of the Brenner Base Tunnel project, one of Europe's landmark cross-border infrastructure megaprojects. As an academic and practicing engineer, his research, technical innovations and engineering practice have profoundly advanced modern concrete and underground engineering.

Upon receiving the award, Professor Bergmeister expressed his gratitude to CTE. He highlighted the importance of sustainable concrete construction, cross-border engineering collaboration and knowledge transfer to tackle future infrastructure challenges.
