Two Distinguished Global Civil Engineering Fellows Join the Board of the SCP
The International Society for Smart Construction and Production (SCP) recently announced the appointment of two world-leading civil and built environment scholars as new Board Members, further strengthening the society’s top-tier global academic governance team. The newly appointed board members include Dr. Bruce R. Ellingwood and Professor Jian Kang — both Fellows of world-class national engineering academies with authoritative research strengths covering structural resilience, infrastructure risk engineering, architectural acoustics, soundscape and sustainable intelligent built environments.
With decades of cross-continental academic research, journal editorial and international conference organizing experience, the two distinguished fellows will jointly steer SCP’s long-term strategic layout, formulate industry and academic standard frameworks, oversee global academic award evaluation, and bridge frontier fundamental research with industrial digital practice to accelerate the global development of resilient, low-carbon and smart construction.
Brief Profiles of New SCP Board Members
Dr. Bruce R. Ellingwood, U.S. National Academy of Engineering Fellow
Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University and former faculty of Georgia Tech, Dr. Ellingwood was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering for his pioneering contributions to structural reliability, natural hazard risk assessment and infrastructure resilience engineering. He is a globally recognized authority on seismic engineering, load safety standards and lifecycle structural risk analysis, and has received numerous top international civil engineering medals. He will lead SCP’s research working group on resilient intelligent infrastructure, disaster-resistant digital construction standards and long-term structural safety assessment systems.
Professor Jian Kang, Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering & Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering
Professor of Acoustics and Soundscape at The Bartlett, University College London (UCL), Professor Jian Kang holds dual fellow titles of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) and Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. His core research covers architectural acoustics, urban soundscape design, sustainable built environment and low-noise intelligent construction. As editor-in-chief and associate editor of multiple top international construction and environment journals, he will take charge of SCP’s research framework for human-centric, healthy smart buildings and urban acoustic environment optimization.

The two new Board Members take office immediately and will participate in the upcoming steering committee meetings to advance preparations for SCP’s annual flagship international conference on smart construction and production innovation.
