The International Society for Smart Construction and Production (SCP) recently announced the appointment of three world-renowned engineering leaders as new Board Members, strengthening the society’s global academic and industrial governance team. The new board members include Dr. Christopher B. Burke, Professor Liping Fang and Professor Kumares C. Sinha — all Fellows of top national engineering academies with cross-disciplinary expertise covering infrastructure, water resources, systems decision science and transportation engineering.

With decades of cross-border industry and academic experience, the three fellows will jointly shape SCP’s strategic development, set conference standards, oversee academic awards, and connect cutting-edge research with industrial practice to advance sustainable smart construction worldwide.

Brief Profiles of New SCP Board Members

Dr. Christopher B. Burke, U.S. National Academy of Engineering Fellow

CEO of Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. in Illinois, USA, Dr. Burke was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 2021. He is a leading industry expert in large-scale complex water resources projects with extensive practical experience in civil and environmental engineering delivery. He will support SCP’s industry-university collaboration and water-resilient smart construction conference initiatives.

Professor Liping Fang, Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellow

A professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, Fang holds dual fellow titles of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (2016) and IEEE (2018). His research focuses on systems engineering, multi-stakeholder decision-making, agent-based simulation and water resource allocation. As an associate editor of multiple top international journals, he will lead SCP’s research framework for balanced, equitable intelligent infrastructure planning.

Professor Kumares C. Sinha, U.S. National Academy of Engineering Fellow

Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Purdue University, Sinha joined the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 2008. A globally recognized authority on transportation infrastructure asset management, highway economics and urban planning, he has received dozens of top international civil engineering awards. He will guide SCP’s research directions on digital transportation infrastructure and lifecycle asset management.

Official Statement from SCP Leadership

“SCP is honored to welcome three preeminent academy fellows to our governing board,” said the President of the International Society for Smart Construction and Production. “Dr. Burke’s industrial infrastructure insights, Professor Fang’s innovative systems decision science, and Professor Sinha’s unparalleled transportation engineering legacy form a well-rounded, cross-continental leadership team. Their joint insights will upgrade our annual international conferences, optimize research peer review standards, and broaden SCP’s global reach across North America, Asia and Europe.”

The three new Board Members will take office right away and attend steering committee meetings for SCP’s upcoming flagship international conference on smart construction and production innovation.
