The 2025 Annual Awards Ceremony of the International Society for Smart Construction and Production Grandly Held in Australia

[Perth, Australia, August 7, 2025] The International Society for Smart Construction and Production (SCP,https://is-scp.org) grandly held its Annual Awards Ceremony in Perth, Australia, on August 7, 2025.Leading scholars, industry leaders, and government representatives from the fields of construction,engineering, and smart manufacturing gathered to witness this annual flagship event in the global smart construction community.

This year’s awards ceremony was hosted by Dr. Jun Wang, Vice President of SCP. Award presenters included Mr. Yaz Mubarakai, Minister for Education of Western Australia; Mr. Bruce Reynolds, Deputy Lord Mayor of Perth; Professor Vijay Singh, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering; Professor Mirosław Skibniewski, Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering; and Professor Mark Billinghurst, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. A total of seven annual awards were announced, recognizing individuals and teams with outstanding achievements in scientific innovation, engineering practice, technology transfer, and social impact.


About the International Society for Smart Construction and Production (SCP)

SCP is one of the most influential international academic and industrial organizations in the field of smart construction and production. It has long been committed to promoting research, innovation, and practical application of digital and intelligent technologies in construction and infrastructure. The society was initiated by Professor Xiangyu Wang, Member of Academia Europaea, Professor Vijay Singh, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and Professor Konrad Bergmeister, Member of the German National Academy of Sciences, together with ten academy-level scholars from around the world. SCP has also established an International Scientific Committee composed of 21 leading scientists from more than ten countries, ensuring its frontier vision, academic authority, and broad international coverage. The society focuses on the deep integration of frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, BIM, digital twins, and the Internet of Things. It hosts international conferences, publishes industry reports, and operates a global awards system each year, promoting cross-sector collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions and supporting the global construction industry’s transition toward smarter, greener, and more sustainable development.


Seven Major Awards Announced

Lifetime Achievement Award

Winner: Professor Martin Skitmore, Bond University, Australia

As a pioneer in decision support systems and artificial intelligence applications in construction engineering, Professor Skitmore’s academic and practical contributions over the past four decades have had a profound impact on global project management and infrastructure delivery models. His research has established a solid theoretical and methodological foundation for the industry.


Construction Robotics Award

Winner: Professor Xiangsheng Chen, Shenzhen University, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(Award Presenter: Professor Mirosław Skibniewski, Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering)

Professor Chen has pioneered the application of intelligent robotics in complex and high-risk construction scenarios, including deep shafts, tunnels, and urban rail transit. He has promoted the establishment of national-level research platforms and enabled large-scale engineering application of technological achievements, significantly improving construction safety and efficiency.


Emerging Technology Award

Winner: Professor Xiaobo Qu, Tsinghua University, Member of Academia Europaea(Award Presenter: Professor Vijay Singh, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering)

Professor Qu has achieved breakthrough results in low-altitude intelligent mobility, developing the world’s first modular flying car and a real-time mobility decision-making system, presenting a new vision for future urban air transportation.


Community Impact Award

Winner: Professor Vivian Tam, Western Sydney University, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering(Award Presenter: Mr. Bruce Reynolds, Deputy Lord Mayor of Perth)

Professor Tam’s “CO₂ concrete” technology combines construction waste recycling with carbon dioxide capture. It has been successfully applied in major infrastructure projects across several Australian states and has become an industry benchmark for sustainable construction.


Smart Construction Award

Winner: Professor Jack C.P. Cheng, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(Award Presenter: Mr. Yaz Mubarakai, Minister for Education of Western Australia)

Professor Cheng has integrated multimodal large language models, construction robotics, blockchain, and generative design, advancing smart construction from proof-of-concept to large-scale industrialization and significantly improving the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of engineering projects.


Young Outstanding Scholar Award

Winner: Dr. Nan Zhang, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia(Award Presenter: Professor Mark Billinghurst, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand)

Dr. Zhang has made outstanding achievements in 3D concrete printing, automated construction, and sustainable materials. He has led the development and commercialization of multiple rapid forming and nozzle-mixing technologies,demonstrating the vitality and potential of young scholars on the global innovation stage.


Excellence in Collaboration Award

Winning Team: The “Digital Roads” Project Team, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, led by Professor Ioannis Brilakis and Professor Lavindra de Silva

The team has collaborated with National Highways, the Department for Transport, and multiple engineering enterprises in the United Kingdom to advance the development of digital twins, road robotics, autonomous maintenance platforms, and open datasets. Their work has established an international model for cross-sector collaboration in empowering smart infrastructure.

This year, the Smart Production Award and the Enterprise Digital Transformation Award will remain vacant due to the lack of sufficient nominations with breakthrough impact. The Awards Committee hopes that more outstanding individuals and teams will apply in the coming year and contribute to the advancement of the industry.

The awards ceremony was an important part of SCP’s 11th International Conference. It not only showcased full-chain achievements from frontier technological breakthroughs to industrial implementation, but also highlighted the innovation capacity of the global smart construction community. Looking ahead, SCP will continue to promote the deep integration of smart construction and digital production, working with global partners to lead the construction industry toward a smarter, greener, and more sustainable future.
