Call for Papers: Special Issue | Sustainable Technologies for Smart and Resilient Built Environments
To promote academic exchange and technological advancement in this field, the Journal of Building Design and Environment (JBDE), in partnership with the 2nd International Conference on Digital Intelligence for Energy Systems (ICDIES 2026), is proud to launch a special issue: Sustainable Technologies for Smart and Resilient Built Environments.
This special issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research, technological innovations, engineering applications, and policy perspectives to comprehensively advance the creation of smart and resilient built environments through sustainable technologies. We particularly welcome interdisciplinary innovations and look forward to breaking down the barriers between building science, energy systems, digital technologies, and sustainable transitions, empowering the future together.
The call for papers is now fully open! We cordially invite scholars in related fields, including building science, energy systems, and digital technologies, to actively submit their work and jointly explore the low-carbon transition and future development pathways for smart and resilient built environments!
Special Issue Description
Facing the increasingly severe challenges posed by climate change, energy security, resource constraints, and decarbonization, the built environment is undergoing a profound transformation. The emergence of new technologies and innovative solutions, such as sustainable energy technologies and systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins, renewable energy integration, energy storage, electrification, and demand flexibility, has brought new opportunities to enhance the performance, efficiency, adaptability, sustainability, and resilience of buildings and the built environment.
At the same time, the mounting pressures of frequent extreme weather, energy market volatility, and rapid urbanization further highlight the urgency of constructing low-carbon, sustainable, intelligent, flexible, and highly resilient built environments. Addressing these challenges urgently requires the deep integration of technological, operational, and policy pathways to support more adaptive and future-oriented building development.
